Linda Bloomfield's course covers theoretical aspects of glaze chemistry and is useful to anyone interested in making their own glazes. The theoretical sections are followed by a practical session in which you can make your own glaze and add colouring oxides. The theoretical section is condensed into half an hour and covers:
- The three main components of a glaze and what each material contributes to the glaze.
- The difference between a glaze recipe and molecular formula.
- Glossy and matt glazes, adjusting glazes and correcting defects.
- Adding colour, in the form of oxides and stains. Health and safety.
The practical session then follows and will take about half an hour to watch followed by 2 hours of work on your own.
