Linda Bloomfield is a potter, designer, author and teacher and an expert on ceramic glazes. She works in porcelain on the wheel, at her studio in London. She designs and makes ceramic art and functional tableware with dimples and visible throwing lines showing the hand of the maker. She also designs some manufactured tableware based on her thrown porcelain. She uses a tactile satin matt glaze on the outside and colour on the inside. She has been a professional potter for more than 20 years.
Linda’s work is available through her online shop (https://lindabloomfield.co.uk/product-category/handmade-porcelain/), and through other shops and galleries. She makes bespoke ranges of handmade tableware for restaurants. She develops and makes her own range of glazes and is particularly interested in the translucent colours obtained using oxides rather than commercial stains. She has exhibited her work widely in the world of design and craft.
She shares her knowledge of glazes through her writing and teaching. She has written books on tableware design and on glazes and magazine articles for Ceramic Review and Claycraft. She teaches courses in the UK and internationally on colour in glazes, special effect glazes and how to develop ceramic glazes.
